Lauretta J. Profitt Daniels, 78, Lewiston

      Lauretta Jean Profitt Daniels, 78, of Lewiston, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2007, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston of cancer. Jean was surrounded by her loving family as she left this life.

      Jean was born Dec. 6, 1928, in Ahsahka to Luther Profitt and Myrtle Dodge Profitt. She spent her early childhood and elementary years in Ahsahka. In 1943, the family moved to Richland where Mr. Profitt worked at Hanford and Jean attended high school. Then they moved back to Ahsahka where Jean graduated from Orofino High School in 1946.

      During 1946 and 1947 Jean worked in Moscow at the telephone company.

      On July 13, 1947, she married Erle H. Daniels in Orofino at the Methodist Church. He was a logging contractor and builder. They made their home in Kendrick and then in Orofino, then in 1960 they moved to Lewiston and Jean managed the family home full of three young daughters. Her marriage with Erle ended in a divorce in 1974.

      Jean went to work at Omark from 1975 to 1993 when she retired.

      Jean was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, the Order of the Eastern Star, and she was a Blue Bird leader when her daughters were children. She had also been very active in the Democratic Party. More recently, her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

      She was a beautiful seamstress and a wonderful cook.

      Survivors include her three daughters and their husbands, Sherri and Dick McMillen, Susan and David Dokken, all of Lewiston, and Lisa and Jeff Brice of Clarkston; five grandchildren, Shalla Gill and husband Ryan of Lewiston, Dustin Best and wife Kristen of Fairfax, Va., Kate McMillen of Portland, Ore., Lindsey Reynolds and husband Ryan, and Emily Dokken, all of Lewiston; three great-grandchildren, Logan Reynolds, Sayler Gill and Colin Best; her sister, Betty Bond of Spokane; brothers, Donald Profitt and his wife Yvonne, and Jerry Profitt and his wife Mary, all of Lewiston.

      Jean was preceded in death by her mother and father, Luther and Myrtle; and a brother, Robert Profitt.

      Cremation has taken place and an interment ceremony is planned for a later date.

      A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston with the Rev. Gretchen Rehberg of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity officiating. A gathering will follow at the home of Sherri and Dick McMillen, 1220 Third St., Lewiston.

      Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Joseph Home Health and Family Hospice, the Community Action Partnership or a charity of your choice.
